Add a commitment
- Open Commitments and tap Add commitment.
- Pick a type from the list of nine. Each row carries a one-line description — worth reading if you're unsure whether something is a bill, an instalment or a subscription.
- Some types offer a shortcut. Choose Loan or Bill and you'll get a grid of common presets (Car loan, Home loan, Utilities, Phone & internet, and so on). Choose Subscription and you'll get a searchable list of categories — Streaming & TV, Music, Gaming, and the rest. A preset only fills the form in for you; it changes nothing about how the commitment behaves afterwards. Every grid ends with a Custom tile if none of them fit.
- Fill in the form. What you're asked for depends on the type:
- Amount — what you expect to pay each cycle.
- Cadence — Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly, or One-time. Pick One-time for something you'll pay once.
- Next due date — when the next payment falls.
- Remaining amount — for loans, credit cards and instalment plans, the total you still owe. Surrah works out how many payments are left from this and your per-cycle amount, so keep it accurate rather than counting payments yourself.
- Target amount and target date — for savings goals only. See Savings goals.
- Emoji — how the commitment is identified everywhere in the app.
- Save.
About due dates on the 29th, 30th or 31st. If your commitment falls on a day some months don't have, it lands on the last day of the short month and then returns to its real day. Anchor to the 31st and February takes the 28th (or 29th), April the 30th, and May the 31st again. The date won't creep earlier over time.
Multiple currencies. A commitment in a currency other than your main one needs an exchange rate — Surrah will ask for it and won't save without it. Same-currency commitments never ask.
