Reading a commitment's history
Every commitment keeps a list of the payments made against it. Open the commitment and scroll to History: each row shows the amount, the date, and a short line saying where that payment came from.
Where a payment came from
- Auto-matched from SMS — a bank message arrived from this commitment's merchant and, because its payment is recorded From bank messages, Surrah recorded the payment without asking.
- Scheduled — Surrah recorded the payment itself on the due date, because this commitment's payment is recorded On the due date (or From bank messages, when no charge had arrived by then). It stands in for a charge Surrah expects. If the real bank message turns up for the same cycle, Surrah asks whether to replace it with the amount the bank actually took, or replaces it straight away when the payment is recorded From bank messages. Either way the due date stays put.
- Linked expense — you told Surrah a charge pays this commitment: by linking it from the expense, or by answering Yes or Replace when Surrah asked.
- Marked paid — you recorded the payment from the commitment itself, with Mark paid.
Savings goals keep their own three: Funding for money you put in, Withdrawal for money you took out, and Funded by an expense when a charge you made was the deposit.
Why the labels matter
They tell you what you can undo, and from where. A Linked expense is undone from the expense, with Unlink. A Marked paid or Extra payment row is undone right here in the history, newest first: press and hold the row on iPhone, or open the More menu at the end of the row on Android, and choose Undo. Anything else is managed from the commitment itself.
A payment doesn't always move the due date
The date moves once per cycle. The payment that closes the cycle the commitment is waiting on moves it; anything else recorded in that same cycle — a second charge, a top-up, a payment you're backfilling from months ago — stays in the history and comes off the balance, but leaves the schedule alone.
So four rows this month and a date that moved once is not a mistake. It's four real payments and one closed cycle.
If a row looks wrong
Check the label first. An Auto-matched from SMS row on the wrong commitment is undone from its expense, the same way a manual link is, for about a cycle afterwards. A Scheduled row that never had a real charge behind it means the commitment wasn't actually paid — set How is the payment recorded? to Manually if that keeps happening.
