Set the number of payments

An instalment plan or a savings circle runs for a set number of payments. Tell Surrah how many, and it counts them down for you: where you are, how many are left, and when the last one falls.

Set it

When you add or edit an Instalment plan or a Savings Circle that repeats, fill in Number of payments. Enter the total for the whole plan, from the first payment to the last, not only the ones still to come.

  • On an instalment plan it's required, and Surrah works out the balance from it: the payments still to come times the instalment amount. A new plan of 12 payments of 50 starts with a balance of 600.
  • On a savings circle it's optional. Leave it empty if your circle has no set end.

Under the field, a line starting Ends on shows the date of the last payment. Surrah works it out from the schedule, so you don't enter it.

A loan keeps Ends on as before: you pick the date it's paid off.

Where you are: 4 of 12

Surrah counts your place from the date the plan started and its schedule, not from the payments recorded in the app. So a circle you joined four months ago shows 4 of 12 straight away, even if you've never marked a payment in Surrah. You'll see it on the commitment's row, and under the payment dots as Paid 4 of 12 payments. When one payment is left, the row says Last payment.

When did it start?

The count runs from the plan's start date, so set it when you add a plan that began before today. If you add a number of payments to a commitment that has no start date, Surrah asks When did it start? It suggests the date of your earliest recorded payment, or one cycle before the next due date if there are none. Check it and change it if needed: the count depends on it.

The last payment closes the plan

Once the last payment is paid, the plan is marked Completed.

  • If the payment is recorded On the due date, Surrah records the last one on its date and closes the plan by itself.
  • If you record payments Manually, the plan stays open, even when it's overdue, until you Mark paid the last one.

On an instalment plan, whichever comes first closes it: the last payment, or the balance reaching zero.

Marked the last payment by mistake? Undo it from the history. If it still shows Completed, tap Reopen.

Changing the number

You can change Number of payments later, for example when a plan is extended. It has to be more than the number of payments that have already come due. If it isn't, Surrah tells you the lowest number you can use, for example: Enter more than 4. That many payments have already come due.
