Owner pay: what you take out of your business
When you move money from a Work account to your personal account, that is owner pay. Surrah keeps it apart from the business's own costs, so a month's costs aren't inflated by your own salary.
The switch
On the Work space page, Count owner pay as money out decides how it shows:
- Off (the default). Transfers to your personal account show as Paid to you, not as money out. The Money out figure stays the business's real costs.
- On. Owner pay is added to money out and appears as its own Owner pay row under money out by category, so the rows add up to the total.
You can also set it when you create the Work space. Only owners and editors can change it.
Two tiles under Money in · Money out
- Paid to you this month: what you moved to your personal account.
- Business owes you: business costs you paid from your personal account that the business hasn't paid back yet. Moving money back to yourself pays it down first.
Good to know
- Money you move from your personal account into the business is your own money going in. It isn't counted as money in.
- The figures follow the space owner's accounts, and everyone in the space sees the same numbers.
- Cash & runway always counts owner pay as money out, whatever the switch says.
