Undo a payment
Recorded a payment by mistake, or entered the wrong amount? You can undo it from the commitment's history, as long as it's the newest payment there.
How to undo
Open the commitment and find the payment in its history. On iPhone, press and hold the row; on Android, open the More menu at the end of the row. Choose Undo. When Surrah asks Undo this payment?, tap Undo again.
Undo works on two kinds of row:
- Marked paid — a payment you recorded with Mark paid. The amount goes back onto the balance, and if that payment moved the due date on, the due date goes back to where it was.
- Extra payment — money you put toward a loan with Pay extra. The amount goes back onto the balance. The due date never moved, so it stays put.
The payment then disappears from the history.
Newest first
Payments are undone from the newest down. If there's a newer payment on the commitment, Surrah says Undo the newer payment first. Undo that one, then the one you meant.
When a payment can no longer be undone
A Marked paid payment that moved the due date can only be undone while the due date is still the one it moved to. If the date has changed since, because you edited it or the schedule moved on, Surrah says The due date has moved on since this payment, so it can't be undone. The payment stays in the history. If the balance is now wrong, fix it with Edit: on a credit card, change the remaining balance; on a loan, adjust Ends on; on an instalment plan, adjust Number of payments, until Balance ≈ shows what you really owe.
Some older Marked paid payments on a repeating commitment, recorded before Undo was added, can't be undone at all, so Undo doesn't appear on them. If the balance is wrong, fix it with Edit in the same way.
Other kinds of row
- Linked expense and Auto-matched from SMS payments came from an expense. Undo them from the expense, with Unlink.
- Scheduled payments are recorded by Surrah on the due date and aren't undone here.
A paid-off loan reopens
If the payment you undo was the one that cleared a loan, the loan opens again with its balance back, and carries on as before. A commitment that doesn't repeat is marked complete when you mark it paid, so undoing that payment opens it again too. If the commitment is paused, resume it first. Payments on a cancelled commitment can't be undone.
